HTC One Google Edition

Ever imagined a Nexus-like HTC One? Yes, HTC One will be out in a new variant, same hardware but in Google-edition software.

Following Google's announcement of a Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4, its equally surprising that the company would also be launching a Google Edition HTC One - Samsung Galaxy S4's closest competitor.

HTC has confirmed that their current flagship phone, HTC One, will be made available in a Google-Edition variant, running on stock Android operating system. This means that the Sense UI, which HTC has been known for and differentiated, will be replaced by stock Android UI.

Now, as much as this announcement is deemed as good, there's always a thing or two that would be sacrificed in exchange of some improvements and changes. For one, the Sense UI will be out, which means you get lesser HTC-feels out of this device. Second, like what will happen to all Samsung-exclusive applications in S4, all HTC-exclusive applications will also not be available to the user. However, in defense of this Google-edition variant, we can expect - faster and latest software updates - which in HTC's case, an issue

Although, there's no telling how many units of this edition will be produced, it is claimed that HTC might only be sharing 1% of total production to this Vanilla HTC One, only to test how the public will accept the variant.

This must be a bold move from HTC, considering the issues surrounding its organization internally, the current sales of One as of release and state of the market which is dominated by its closest competitor.

Whether you're for devices of stock android experiences or for devices heavily customized to include an array of exclusive applications - ultimately, its a matter of taste, and the choice will always remain with us consumers. We have options, that's what makes smartphone competitions nowadays much more interesting.
