Sony Xperia SP

A contender for the mid-ranged category, Sony's Xperia SP is but brilliance inside and out - exquisitely designed for the executive look - feels solid, high definition resolution, stunning shots at any light, lightning speed at 1.7Ghz dual core, a Gigabyte of RAM - what else can we say, definitely Sony.

Design and Construction

With SP, Sony has again created a device so solidly made yet is virtually floating in the air - a marriage of genius aesthetics and comfort.

What would set the device apart from its competitors and other Sony devices as well is that it sports a seamless uni-body design, crafted to be encased in an aluminium frame which features a transparent antenna that illuminates in every notification - smart, sleek, convenient.

Well, what is more complementing to the metal design than the colors red, black and white?

Display

Having a 720p resolution at 319 PPI, Sony Xperia SP will be sporting a 4.6” HD Reality Display  - a technology used for Sony's top quality HDTV - crisp and vivid. Using Sony;s newest generation of Mobile BRAVIA Engine, the Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 will provide you that better viewing experience, analyzing the content and adjusting the image the best way.

Did I say it's scratch resistant?

Camera

Sony Xperia SP offers us an 8 megapixel camera with Exmor RS™ image sensor technology - that means brighter, crisper and less noisy images in more vivid color reproductions - be it in daylight or in the night, no worries.

HDR is also at work, capturing clear photos even against that strong backlight, layering images taken at different exposure levels into one optimized image.

Processor and Connectivity

Seeing how the new and powerful Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor fared at power and processing speed, this phone is no short of a top performance speed smartphone without draining the battery so fast. Given that the chipset is asynchronous - what we are looking at is a device with its cores working independent of each other, giving you the precise amount of power you need without wasting power - making your battery life longer and your experience more enjoyable.

Also, it would be coming with Sony's One touch technology and will be out supporting LTE (although no news yet on whether local carriers would be supporting it).

Availability and Price

T'was announced March 2013, and it will be available in the Philippine market by May with a suggested retail price of Php19,990. Although an online gadget store (WidgetCity) is now selling it at only Php16,900.

  2. All those who have have entrusted their faith on Sony are in for a treat. Well, more so leaving aside a few downsides. Often regarded as the little brother to the popular and more expensive Xperia Z, the SP lives up to it's on-paper reputation.
I will try to be as brief as possible.
The screen is a big plus. It sports a 4.6-inch 720p HD display. With a pixel density of 441 ppi(pixels per inch) you will be amazed at how detailed and lucid the screen is which is further enhanced by the Mobile Bravia Engine 2.
The phone comes with hardware specs which are respectable given it's price tag. In contrast to many reviews which said the 1.7 GHz dual-core snapdragon S4 processor
may in some instances show signs of slowing down, I've been using this phone for a few days and I can assure it works butter smooth and can handle CPU-intensive apps simultaneously without a glitch.
The transparent antenna running along the base of the base is a nice touch. It's functional as much as aesthetic, lighting up with notifications and incoming calls, as well as pulsating to music and getting stronger when you push up the volume.
The downsides worth mentioning are the internal storage of 8GB (you only get 4.7GB to play around with your personal files and apps), plastic back-cover which flexes lightly when pushed.

This is certainly one of the best phones in it's category and will give the Nexus 4 a stiff competition. If you ask me my final verdict, I will say that I do not regret buying it.
